Kim Edward Beazley

The honorary degree of Doctor of Letters was conferred upon Kim Edward Beazley at a conferring of degrees ceremony in 1979.

Mr Beazley, who had recently retired, was a Labor member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1945 to 1977 and Minister for Education in the government of Gough Whitlam between 1972 and 1975. As Minister for Education, he carried out important reforms in the education field, such as abolishing university fees and introducing needs-based funding for all schools through the Schools Commission.
