Harrison Bryan

The honorary degree of Doctor of Letters was conferred upon Harrison Bryan by the Chancellor Sir Hermann Black AC at a degree conferring ceremony held on 13 June 1987 in the Great Hall.

Mr Bryan was Librarian of the University of Sydney from 1962 to 1980 and then was appointed Director-General of the National Library of Australia, a post which he held until 1985.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ward, said at the ceremony that Mr Bryan 'is probably the most distinguished librarian in Australia today' and has been 'an outstanding leader in advancing the cause of libraries and librarianship in Australia and internationally'.
