Professor Keith Edward Bullen

The honorary degree of Doctor of Science was conferred upon Professor Keith Edward Bullen by the Chancellor Sir Hermann Black at a conferring of degrees ceremony in January 1976.

Bullen, MA BSc NZ ScD Camb HonDSc Auck, FRS FAAS, mathematician and seismologist, was inaugural Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Sydney from 1946 until his retirement in 1971. He was a prolific author who wrote some 290 papers and five books. His 'Introduction to Seismology' (1947) is a standard textbook that has been reprinted several times and translated into several languages. His last book, 'The Earth's Density', was published in 1975. After he retired in 1971, he taught at the Seismological Institute in Tokyo and the University of British Columbia, Canada.

He died on 23 September 1976.
