At a special meeting of the Senate held in the Great Hall on 19 April 1968, the degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa was conferred on the Governor-General of Australia, His Excellency the Right Honourable Richard Gardiner, Baron Casey, PC GCMG CH DSO MC KStL, MA Cantab HonLLD Maine, Birm, Mich, Monash, Tas & Papua and New Guinea Hon DSc UNSW Hon DEng Newcastle (NSW).
