Emeritus Professor Henry (Jack) Cowan

The honorary degree of Doctor of Architecture was conferred upon Emeritus Professor Henry (Jack) Cowan by the Chancellor Sir Hermann Black at a degree conferring ceremony held on 13 June 1987 in the Great Hall.

Professor Cowan was the world's first professor of architectural science, a chair he held at the Uniiversity for 31 years, and his doctorate of Architecture was the first ever awarded by the University.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Ward, said that Professor Cowan was a leader. 'He both created and helped define a field of intellectual endeavour'.
