Deputy Chancellor, I have the honour to present to you John Vincent Egan, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and Master of Business Administration from the University of NSW, for the conferring of an Honorary Fellowship of the University.

John Egan began a close and continuing association with the University of Sydney when he joined the Advisory Board of the Faculty of Economics in 1995. He has served as Chair of that Board since 2001, and was appointed as an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty in 2003.

Immediately prior to joining the Faculty’s Advisory Board, he served as Chair of the National Advisory Board of AIESEC, a leading international student organisation fostering the development of campus entrepreneurship.

John Egan is the Managing Director of Egan Associates, a specialist remuneration advisory practice. Before establishing his own professional practice in 1989, John Egan was the Executive Chairman of Cullen Egan Dell Australia, while concurrently holding that position in respect of Noble Lowndes Australia, the Australasian representative of the Group’s UK parent, a subsidiary of Hill Samuel plc.

Adjunct Professor Egan has over forty years experience in work value, performance management and reward advice to both major Australian corporations and Government. He has also been widely acknowledged as the leading consultant on remuneration for members of boards and CEOs and was recently appointed by the Federal Remuneration Tribunal to assist them in their advice to the Rudd Government on appropriate remuneration levels for all Australian Government Departmental Secretaries, the most senior officers in the Australian Public Service.

Adjunct Professor Egan has been generous in bringing his vast professional experience and expertise into the classroom to enrich and inform the learning of students in the Faculty of Economics and Business. Not only is he a regular lecturer in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, but he actively supports the research work of the Discipline of Work and Organisational Studies and serves on the Advisory Committee of the Workplace Research Centre.

John Egan has served the University of Sydney with a sustained and informed passion over fourteen years. Apart from invaluable contributions to the teaching and research programs of the Faculty of Economics and Business, he serves tirelessly as an ambassador for the Faculty and the University in the Australian business and professional communities; and as a regular host to at Faculty alumni, business, corporate and student events. His deep engagement with both the US and European global accrediting bodies for business schools, and with other corporate and institutional networks around the world, has enriched the Faculty’s relationships and profile with those vital international alliances.

It would be difficult to overstate the generosity and significance John Egan’s dedicated service to the University through his engagement with the Faculty of Economics and Business.

Deputy Chancellor, I present to you John Vincent Egan and invite you to confer upon him the title of Honorary Fellow of the University.
