Honorary awards

Dr Herbert lan Priestley Hogbin

At a conferring of degrees ceremony held in the Great Hall on 5 March 1983, the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters was conferred upon ethnographer, Dr Ian Hogbin, MA Sydney PhD London School Economics, who retired as a Reader in Anthropology in the Department of Anthropology in 1970 and then served for several years as a Professorial Fellow at Macquarie University. The award paid tribute to Dr Hogbin's pioneering research in the Pacific and to his great influence in Australian anthropology.
