Sir Ian Douglas Miller

The honorary degree of Doctor of Medicine was conferred upon Sir Ian Douglas Miller, a distinguished graduate of this University, by the Chancellor, Sir Hermann Black, in the University's Great Hall on 20 January 1979.


Sir Douglas Miller is a former examiner in Surgery at the University (1941 to 1960) and a former Lecturer in Neurosurgery (1957 to 1960). Under his guidance the teaching hospital of St Vincent's became an important centre in national and international medical circles. Sir Douglas was also involved in the development of medicine in Singapore, Mayaya and India, and later in Hong Kong.
