The Right Honourable Sir Earle Christmas Grafton Page, GCMG
The degree of Doctor of Science (honoris causa) was conferred upon the Right Honourable Sir Earle Christmas Grafton Page at the ceremony of conferring of honorary degrees held on 29 August 1952 as part of the University of Sydney's Centenary celebrations.
Presented to the Chancellor, Sir Charles Bickerton Blackburn by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor T G Room:
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE SIR EARLE CHRISTMAS GRAFTON PAGE, G.C.M.G., C.H., M.B., Ch.M., F.R.C.S., F.R.A.C.S., formerly Prime Minister of Australia, Commonwealth Minister for Health, and Chairman of the Advisory Council of the New England University College, Armidale.
Mr. Chancellor, Earle Christmas Grafton Page has filled many high offices in the Commonwealth. He has been Prime Minister, and three times Acting Prime Minister, Commonwealth Treasurer, Minister for Commerce, and latterly twice Minister for Health. But always the land and its people have been of compelling interest to him, and the University owes him a special debt for the part he played in successfully grafting Sydney's academic shoots on to country stock to form the New England University College.
Mr. Chancellor, I present to you Earle Christmas Grafton Page, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George, Companion of Honour.
