Mr Chancellor, Earle Christmas Grafton Page has filled many high offices in the Commonwealth. He has been Prime Minister, and three times Acting Prime Minister, Commonwealth Treasurer, Minister for Commerce, and latterly twice Minister for Health. But always the land and its people have been of compelling interest to him, and the University owes him a special debt for the part he played in successfully grafting Sydney's academic shoots on to country stock to form the New England University College.
Mr Chancellor, I present to you Earle Christmas Grafton Page, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George, Companion of Honour.
