Norma Alice Parker
Norma Alice Parker, who played a pioneering role in the establishment of social work as a profession in Australia, was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters by the University on 14 June 1986.
She is pictured below after the ceremony with (l to r) Professor John Lawrence, School of Social Work, UNSW, and from Sydney University Professor Sam Ball, Chairman of the Board of Studies in Social Work, and Associate Professor Michael Horsburgh, of the Department of Social Work.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Ward, in his introductory remarks, said that 'her efforts so shaped and guided the schools of socia! work at the University and at the University of New South Wales that social work education in this State will long be in her debt'.
