Sir Brian Wellingham Windeyer

The honorary degree of Doctor of Medicine was conferred upon Sir Brian Wellingham Windeyer, a distinguished graduate of this University, by the Chancellor, Sir Hermann Black, in the University's Great Hall on 20 January 1979.


Sir Brian Windeyer is a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of London and an authority on cancer and radiotherapy. He was
Dean of the Medical School from 1954 to 1967, and also Dean of the Faculty of Medicine from 1964 to 1968. He played a leading part with Ralston Patterson and Ell is in establishing radotherapy as a separate speciality and in founding the Faculty of Radiotherapists in 1932.
