Senate's Delegations of Authority

Senate's Delegations of Authority are set out in:


University of Sydney (Delegations of Authority – Administrative Functions) Rule 2010

The University of Sydney (Delegations of Authority – Administrative Functions) Rule 2010 (as amended) provides for the delegation by Senate to the University committees, authorities, officers, employees, consultants and contractors set out in Parts 4 to 14 of this Rule of the activities and functions prescribed in those Parts.


Additional Senate delegations

The following additional Senate delegations have been approved by Senate, and will be incorporated into the University of Sydney (Delegations of Authority – Administrative Functions) Rule 2010 at its next review:

approve appointments to University organisations, where the appointee is not a Fellow:

  • International House Council:
    – three persons who shall be members of Rotary International, each appointed for 3 years, one of who shall retire each year
    – one person nominated by SUIH Alumni Association appointed annually
    – one person nominated by SUIH Members Association appointed annually
    – up to 9 other persons each appointed for 3 years of whom 3 shall retire each year
  • Law Extension Committee:
    – three members of the Faculty of Law  appointed on the nomination of the Faculty
    – a judge appointed on the nomination of the Chief Justice of NSW
    – two barristers appointed on the nomination of the NSW Bar Association
    – two solicitors appointed on the nominations of the Law Society of NSW
    – four appointed persons
  • Mandelbaum House Council:
    – one appointed person
  • Student Disciplinary Appeals Committee:
    – a person who holds or has held office as a judge or magistrate in any state or federal court in Australia, appointed on the nomination of the Chancellor 
    – a person admitted and enrolled as a legal practitioner under the legal profession Act 1987 for at least 5 years, appointed on the nomination of the Chancellor
  • SUSF General and Management Committees:
    – four appointed representatives (2 male and 2 female)
  • Student Proctorial Board:
    – one or more appointed Chairs
  • USU Board of Directors:
    – two appointed Directors
