Gallery - Welcome & Inaugural Address, 22 July 2008
Dr Michael Spence was officially welcomed as the University's Vice-Chancellor at a ceremony in the Great Hall at 6.00pm on Tuesday 22 July 2008.
The Welcome Ceremony comprised an Academic Procession and the Vice-Chancellor’s Inaugural Address in the Great Hall, followed by a Reception of cocktails and canapés in MacLaurin Hall.
Over 700 alumni, staff and guests were invited to attend.
The welcome was hosted by the Chancellor, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, and Master of Ceremonies was the Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Don Nutbeam.
University Organist, Amy Johansen, played:
1. Adagio from the Oboe Concerto in D Minor, by Tomaso Albinoni
2. Toccata from the Fifth Organ Symphony, by Charles-Marie Widor.
There was also a musical interlude by the University of Sydney Graduate Choir, who sang:
1. Ave Verum Corpus, by Mozart
2. The Lord Bless You and Keep You, by John Rutter
