Decisions of Senate

Senate made the following decisions at its meeting held in open session on 21 March 2011:


B

  • endorsed the Academic Board’s recommendation to introduce the Bachelor of Nursing (Advanced Studies) and approved the amendment of the Resolutions of Senate related to the Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery.

C

  • congratulated Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO with acclamation on her re-election as Chancellor for a four year term of office commencing on 1 June 2011.

D

  • endorsed the Academic Board’s approval of the proposal from the Faculty of Dentistry to introduce the Doctor of Dental Medicine and approved the amendment of the Resolutions of Senate related to the Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the Faculty of Dentistry, with effect from 1 January 2012.

F

  • approved the amendments to the Senate Resolutions relating to the Constitution of the Faculty of Medicine with effect from 25 March 2011.
  • welcomed new Fellow of Senate Mr Robert Leece AM RFD to his first meeting of Senate.

I

  • appointed the following members of the International House Council for the terms of office specified:
    – Clause 7 (a)(ii) (cc), One person nominated by SUIH Alumni Association appointed annually: Mr Jonathan Ribot (to 31 December 2011)
    – Clause 7 (a)(ii) dd), One person nominated by SUIH Members Association appointed annually: Mr Jonathan Tanco (to 31 December 2011)

M

  • endorsed the Academic Board’s approval of the proposal from the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources to rescind the Master of Agricultural Economics and change the name of the Master of Science in Agriculture to the Master of Philosophy, and approved the amendment of the Resolutions of Senate related to the Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, with effect from 1 January 2012.

R

  • approved amendment of the Rules for Foundations as from 1 April 2011 subject to some amendment and resolved, to the extent that their existing Rules permit, that the Rules of the University’s Foundations be amended accordingly.

S

  • appointed the following nominees to membership of the Student Appeals Panel in partial fulfilment of the remaining vacancies:
    – Academic staff member: Dr Stephen Frean / Ms Wendy Currie
    – Postgraduate student members: Mr Shaligram Neupane (Nominated by President, SUPRA)
    – Undergraduate student members: Mr Edward Rigby

U

  • approved the amendment of the University of Sydney (Amendment Act) Rule 1999 (as amended) with effect from 25 March 2011.
  • approved the amendment of the University of Sydney (Coursework) Rule 2000 (as amended), with effect from 25 March 2011.
  • approved the rescission of the University of Sydney (Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)) Rule 2004 (as amended) with effect from 25 March 2011.
  • approved the introduction of the University of Sydney (Higher Degree by Research) Rule 2011 with effect from 25 March 2011.
