Senate made the following non-confidential decisions at its meeting held on 18 March 2013.

The Nominations and Appointments Committee made the following non-confidential decisions on 12 March 2013 under delegated authority from Senate.


A

  • Annual Report 2012:
    – Senate approved the University of Sydney Annual Report for 2012.
  • Audit Committee:
    – Senate approved the Terms of Reference for the Audit Committee (a sub-committee of the Finance and Audit Committee).

B

  • Board of Studies in Indigenous Studies:
    – Senate amended the constitution of the Board of Studies.

C

  • Chairs of Student Proctorial Boards:
    – The Nominations and Appointments Committee, under delegated authority, approved the appointment of the Hon Colleen Moore and the Hon David Levine as Chairs of Student Proctorial Boards for a second term of office concluding at the March 2014 meeting of Senate.
  • Chancellor:
    — Senate welcomed Ms Belinda Hutchinson AM as Chancellor.
  • Concord Medical Centre:
    – Senate approved the following names:
    a. Concord Medical Education Centre conference room 1: "Murray Pheils Room"
    b. Concord Medical Education Centre conference room 2: "Jim Lawrence Room"
    c. Concord Medical Education Centre library: "Geoff Marel Library"

  • Faculty of Agriculture and Environment:
    – Senate endorsed the Academic Board’s approval of the proposal from the Faculty to introduce the Bachelor of Food and Agribusiness and approved the amendment of the Resolutions of Senate related to the Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the Faculty with effect from 1 January 2014.
  • Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences:
    – Senate endorsed the Academic Board’s approval of the proposal from the Faculty to make major amendments to the Master of Digital Communication and Culture, Graduate Diploma in Digital Communication and Culture and Graduate Certificate in Digital Communication and Culture, and approved the amendment of the Resolutions of Senate related to the Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the Faculty with effect from 1 January 2015.
  • Faculties: Minor Course Amendments:
    — Senate endorsed the Academic Board’s approval of a range of minor amendments to existing courses, with effect from 1 January 2014.
  • Finance and Audit Committee:
    – Senate approved amendment of the Terms of Reference for Finance and Audit Committee to recognise the Audit (Sub) Committee.

I

  • International House Council:
    – The Nominations and Appointments Committee, under delegated authority, approved the appointment of Mr William (Bill) Salter to the Council of International House in the category of ‘Three persons who shall be members of Rotary International, each appointed for three years, one of whom shall retire each year’ to replace Mr Richmond Manyweathers who retired at the end of 2012.

  • Law Extension Committee:
    The Committee, under delegated authority, approved the appointment of the following to membership of the Law Extension Committee for a term of office to conclude on 30 November 2014:
    – Three members of the Faculty of Law appointed by Senate on the nomination of the Faculty: Mr Ross Anderson, Professor Cameron Stewart and Professor Gregory Tolhurst
    – A judge appointed by Senate on the nomination of the Chief Justice of New South Wales: Justice Paul Brereton
    – Two barristers appointed by Senate on the nomination of the New South Wales Bar Association: Ms Janet Oakley and Mr Anthony J O'Brien
    – Two solicitors appointed by Senate on the nomination of the Law Society of New South Wales: Mr John Dobson and Ms Heidi Fairhall

  • Pro Chancellors:
    – Senate endorsed the appointment of Dr Barry Catchlove and the re-appointment of Mr Alec Brennan as Pro Chancellors for two years or for so long as in office.

  • Risk Management Policy:
    – Senate rescinded the Risk Management Policy so that the new policy can be approved and promulgated.

  • Selection Committee: Deanship of the Sydney Business School:
    – Senate approved the appointment of the Selection Committee.
  • Senate meeting dates:
    – Senate amended its meeting dates as follows:
    a. 11 June 2013 changes to 1 July 2013
    b. 16 September 2013 changes to 2 September 2013
    c. 10 June 2014 changes to 2 June 2014
    d. 15 September 2014 changes to 8 September 2014
    – Fellows who had difficulties with any of these changes would advise Dr Adams.
  • Student Disciplinary Appeals Committee:
    – Senate appointed Mr Patrick Massarani to membership of the Committee and thanked Associate Professor Ariadne Vromen for her service to the Committee.
  • Sydney College of the Arts:
    – Senate endorsed the Academic Board’s approval of the proposal from the College to amend the Bachelor of Visual Arts, and approved the amendment of the Resolutions of Senate related to the Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the College with effect from 1 January 2014.
