Senate made the following decisions at its meeting held in open session on 3 May 2010:


A

Appointment of Deans:
Senate approved the Policy and procedures for the Appointment of Deans as set out in the report presented.

D

Deputy Chancellor:
Senate congratulated Mr A Cameron on his election as Deputy Chancellor to the Senate meeting in March 2012.

F

Fellow of Senate:
Senate congratulated Mr Nicholas (Nick) Irving on his election as a Fellow of Senate by and from the postgraduate students, to fill a casual vacancy from 23 April to 30 November 2010.

Gift Acceptance Policy:
Senate approved the Gift Acceptance Policy as set out in the report presented.

Student Proctorial Boards:
Senate resolved to re-appoint the Hon Mr Trevor Morling QC and the Hon Mahla Pearlman AO as Chairs of Student Proctorial Boards for a one year term of office to the May 2011 meeting of Senate.

University of Sydney Act 1989:
Senate resolved to inform the Minister through the Secretary to Senate:
- that it does not oppose the proposed structural amendments in principle, while noting that it has no plans to seek any changes in its constitution or the method of election of its graduate Fellows at the present time
- that the proposed amendment with respect to the removal of the Chancellor or Deputy Chancellor is not required in its case, but the introduction of uniform provisions is not opposed providing the present safeguards in its provisions are continued
- that Senate seeks the capacity only to remunerate student elected Fellows of Senate
- that Senate requests that the opportunity be taken to provide for flexibility in the terms for which student Fellows may be elected, to permit two year terms.

University of Sydney (Delegations of Authority – Administrative Functions) Rule 2010:
Senate, under the power conferred on it by section 37 of the University Act, resolved to make the University of Sydney (Delegations of Authority – Administrative Functions) Rule 2010, the terms of which appeared in the report presented.

University of Sydney (Student Appeals against Academic Decisions) Rule 2006:
Senate resolved to amend the University of Sydney (Student Appeals against Academic Decisions) Rule 2006 as set out in the report presented.
