Decisions of Senate

Senate made the following decisions at its meeting held in open session on 27 June 2011:


F

  • resolved, with effect from 1 January 2012, (1) to endorse the Academic Board’s approval of the proposal from the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning and the Faculty of Law to introduce the Bachelor of Design in Architecture/Bachelor of Laws; and (2) to approve the amendment of the Resolutions of Senate related to the Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning and the Faculty of Law.
  • resolved, with effect from 1 January 2012, (1) to endorse the Academic Board’s approval of the proposal from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences to delete the Bachelor of Socio-Legal Studies and Bachelor of Socio-Legal Studies (Honours); and (2) to approve the amendment of the Resolutions of Senate related to the Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
  • resolved, with effect from 1 January 2012, (1) to endorse the Academic Board’s approval of the proposal from the Faculty of Science to delete the Master of Bioethics (Honours); and (2) to approve the amendment of the Resolutions of Senate related to the Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the Faculty of Science.
  • resolved, with effect from 1 January 2012, (1) to endorse the Academic Board’s approval of the proposal from the Faculty of Science to rename the Master of Applied Science, Graduate Diploma in Applied Science and Graduate Certificate in Applied Science in the areas of Applied Positive Psychology, Bioinformatics, Environmental Science, Health Psychology, Microscopy and Microanalysis, Molecular Biotechnology, Psychology of Coaching and Spatial Information Science; and delete the general Master of Applied Science, Graduate Diploma in Applied Science and Graduate Certificate in Applied Science; and (2) to approve the amendment of the Resolutions of Senate related to the Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the Faculty of Science.
  • congratulated the re-elected and new staff Fellows of Senate Ms Kim Wilson, Professor Marian Baird, Professor Dick Bryan, Professor Chris Murphy and Associate Professor Ariadne Vromen on their election, and welcomed them to this meeting.
  • congratulated Fellows of Senate Mr Alan Cameron AO (Deputy Chancellor) and Mr Peter FitzSimons AM and former Fellow Professor Leslie David Field AM on their awards in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
  • recorded its appreciation for the significant contribution made by former Academic Staff Fellows of Senate Professor Belinda Bennett and Professor Simon Chapman who retired from Senate on 31 May 2011.
  • adopted the Rules in the form set out in the report for each of the following Foundations: Dairy Research Foundation / Oral Health Foundation / Poultry Research Foundation / Science Foundation for Physics / Sydney Conservatorium of Music Foundation / Veterinary Science Foundation.
  • resolved to terminate the Moran Foundation for Older Australians pursuant to Clause 17.1.2 of its Constitution.

H

  • appointed Mrs Dorothy Hoddinott to fill the casual vacancy on the Human Resources Committee.

I

  • appointed Ms Jane Spring to fill the casual vacancy on the International House Council.

P

  • endorsed the appointment of Mr Alec Brennan as Pro Chancellor for two years.

S

  • appointed the following selection committee for the Deanship of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music:
    – Ex-officio: Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Dr Michael Spence; Chair of the Academic Board nominee, Professor Belinda Bennett; and Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stephen Garton
    – Three members (plus reserve) nominated by the Faculty: Dr Neil McEwan AM; Professor Anna Reid and Dr Helen Mitchell
    – Reserve members: Associate Professor Kathryn Marsh and Dr Michael
    – External members: Professor Malcolm Gillies, Vice-Chancellor, London Metropolitan University, Editor OUP series Studies in Musical Genesis, Structure and Interpretation, (formerly DVC ANU, President, Australian Academy of the Humanities)
    – Additional member (Chair of Division): Professor Colin Rhodes
  • approved the proposed amendment to the Sydney Uni Sport Constitution.

  • resolved to nominate Professor Marian Baird to fill the casual vacancy on the Women’s College Council.
