Senate made the following decisions at its meeting held in open session on 1 November 2010:


B

Major Bequests transfer to Future Fund:
Senate resolved that the corpus of the bequests, listed in the report presenetd, which have been made to the University and which are not subject to any detailed provision as to how either the capital of the bequest or the income which it generates is to be applied (including any income which has been reinvested) be added to and form part of the Future Fund and that a number of existing undergraduate and postgraduate research scholarships which are funded by the University from its general resources be named in honour of each of these benefactors.

Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning:
Senate
(a) endorsed the Academic Board’s approval of the proposal from the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning to delete the Housing Stream from the Master of Urban and Regional Planning; and
(b) approved the amendment of the Resolutions of Senate related to the Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning;
with effect from 1 January 2011.

Faculty of Education and Social Work:
Senate endorsed the Academic Board’s approval of the proposal from the Faculty of Education and Social Work to amend the Master of Teaching and delete the Bachelor of Teaching, noting the relevant amendments to Senate Resolutions were submitted with the new plain English resolutions, with effect from 1 January 2011.

Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies:
Senate

(3) Senate (a) endorsed the Academic Board’s approval of the proposal from the Faculty of Health Sciences to amend the Master of Speech Language Pathology and Graduate Diploma in Communication Disorders; and (b) approved the new Resolutions of Senate related to the Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the Faculty of Health Sciences;
with effect from 1 January 2011.

Fellows of Senate:
Senate
(1) resolved to congratulate Mr Benjamin Veness on his election as a Fellow of Senate by and from the undergraduate students from 1 December 2010 to 30 November 2011; and
(2) resolved to congratulate Ms Chirine Dada on her election as a Fellow of Senate by and from the postgraduate students from 1 December 2010 to 30 November 2011.

Fellows of Senate retiring on 30 November 2010:
Senate recorded its appreciation for the contribution made by retiring student Fellows of Senate Mr Tom Kaldor and Mr Nick Irving.

2011 Graduation schedule:
Senate
(a) noted the schedule of dates for the 2011 graduation ceremonies approved by the Registrar under delegated authority;
(b) gave authority to the Chancellor, the Deputy Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, the Chair of the Academic Board and the Pro-Chancellors to admit to the appropriate degree or degrees, and to award the appropriate diploma or diplomas at these ceremonies to, those who have qualified for degrees and diplomas concerned and whose names appear in the printed lists contained in the official programs; and
(c) gave authority to the Registrar to change the disciplines to be presented at any ceremony or the scheduled time of any ceremony, after appropriate consultation with the faculties, colleges and boards of studies concerned and after appropriate notice to the graduands concerned.

Sydney University Sport and Fitness Management Committee:
Senate appointed Ms Yasmin L’Estrange as a Senate representative on the Sydney University Sport and Fitness Management Committee, the term of office to conclude on 31 December 2010.
