Senate made the following non-confidential decisions at its meeting held on 3 December 2012:


B

  • Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO:
    – Senate resolved to formally record its appreciation of the Chancellor's outstanding contribution to the Senate and the University over the past five and a half years and acknowledges the high esteem and affection in which she is held by her colleagues on Senate and throughout the wider University community.

  • Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning:
    – Senate endorsed the Academic Board’s approval of the following minor amendments to existing courses, with effect from 1 January 2013: a proposal to delete the streams from the Bachelor of Design in Architecture; and a proposal to amend the Master of Urban Design, the Master of Urban Design (Architecture & Urban Design), the Master of Urban Design (Urban Design & Planning), the Graduate Diploma in Urban Design and the Graduate Certificate in Urban Design.
  • Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies:
    – Senate endorsed the Academic Board’s approval of the proposal from the Faculty to delete the Doctor of Engineering Practice, noting there were no consequent amendments to the Resolutions of Senate related to the Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies.
    – Senate endorsed the Academic Board’s approval of the following minor amendments to existing courses, with effect from 1 January 2013: a proposal to amend the Bachelor of Computer Science and Technology, Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Information Technology and Bachelor of Project Management with respect to the requirements for internal transfers between degrees and streams,; and a proposal to amend the Master of Engineering, the Master of Professional Engineering, the Master of Information Technology, the Master of Information Technology Management, the Master of Project Leadership and the Master of Project Management.
  • Faculty of Medicine:
    – Senate endorsed the Academic Board’s approval of the proposal from the Faculty to delete the Master of Medical Education, Graduate Diploma in Medical Education, Graduate Certificate in Medical Education,; and approved the amendment of the Resolutions of Senate related to the Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the Faculty of Medicine, with effect from 1 January 2013.
    – Senate endorsed the Academic Board’s approval of the following minor amendments to existing courses, with effect from 1 January 2013: a proposal to amend the admission requirements for the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery to specify requirements for a special admission scheme for applicants of rural origin and a special admission scheme for indigenous applicants as well as revised application requirements for international applicants, and a proposal to amend the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
  • Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery:
    – Senate endorsed the Academic Board’s approval of the proposal from the Faculty to rename the Master of Philosophy (Nursing) as the Master of Philosophy, noting there were no consequent amendments to the Resolutions of Senate related to the Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery.
  • Faculty of Veterinary Science:
    – Senate endorsed the Academic Board’s approval of the following minor amendments to existing courses, with effect from 1 January 2013: a proposal to introduce the stream of Veterinary Dermatology in the Master of Veterinary Studies/Master of Clinical Veterinary Studies, and amend the Master of Animal Science, the Master of Veterinary Public Health and the Master of Veterinary Public Health Management.

  • International House Council:
    – Senate appointed Ms Jane Spring to membership of the International House Council for 2013 in the category ‘One other Fellow of Senate, appointed annually’.

  • Safety and Risk Management Committee:
    – Senate appointed Mr James Flynn to fill a casual vacancy on the Safety and Risk Management Committee in the category ‘Two Fellows of Senate appointed by Senate after consultation by the Chair of the Committee with the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor’, the term to conclude at the May 2014 meeting of Senate.
  • Senate Retreat:
    – Senate resolved that the 2013 Senate Retreat be held at the H C Coombes Centre For Financial Studies from 2.00pm on Friday 23 August and from 8.30am to 4.30pm the following day, Saturday 24 August 2013.
  • St Paul’s College Lands Trustees:
    – Senate approved the University executing a Deed of Appointment and Retirement of Trustees in or to the effect of the Deed set out in the report which replaces the late Justice Kim Santow and the late Professor Gavin Brown as the two nominees of the University with Dr Michael Spence, Vice-Chancellor, and Professor Stephen Garton, Provost, to be trustees of the St Paul’s College lands.

  • University of Sydney (Higher Degree by Research) Rule 2011:
    – Senate amended the University of Sydney (Higher Degree by Research) Rule 2011 with effect from 7 December 2012.
