1856  The first graduation ceremony, named Encaenia or annual Commemoration of the founding of the University of Sydney, was held.
1859 The graduation ceremony, renamed the Commemoration of Benefactors and Conferring of Degrees, was held in the Great Hall for the first time
1885  The first female graduates (Arts)
1869 English replaced Latin in the formal proceedings of the Conferring of Degrees ceremonies
1926 The annual Commemoration of benefactors ceremonies and Conferring of degrees ceremonies were now held separately
1928  The number of annual graduation ceremonies began to rise
1951  Possibly the last Commemoration of Benefactors ceremony was held
1991 The first University of Sydney graduation ceremony was held in Hong Kong
1992 The first University of Sydney graduation ceremony was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
1993 A Special War Veterans Graduation Ceremony was held
1999  The first University of Sydney graduation ceremonies were held in Singapore and Shanghai, People's Republic of China
2007 The first University of Sydney graduation ceremony was held in Guangzhou, People's Republic of China
