| 1853-1915 | Following Forshall's resignation, the position of Librarian lapsed for some sixty years, during which time the Library was under the general direction of the Registrar, aided by an Assistant Librarian: – Between 1853 and 1893, the Registrars were Hugh Kennedy, BA Oxf (1853-1882) and Henry Ebenezer Barff CMG, MA Sydney (1882-1893). – In 1893 the title of Registrar was changed to Registrar and Librarian, and Henry Ebenezer Barff was Registrar and Librarian from 1893 to 1914. – The Assistant Librarians during this period were Ralph Hardy (1885-1888), his brother Caleb Hardy, BA Sydney (1888-1902) and John Le Gay Brereton, BA Sydney (1902-1915). |
