A Special Senate meeting was held at 3.45pm on Monday 5 February 1951 in the Senate Room at the University of Sydney in celebration of the first Senate meeting held on 3 February 1851.

4 December 1989
The University's Television Service filmed the historic occasion of the last meeting of the 'old' Senate as constituted under the University and University Colleges Act 1900. The 'new' Senate, which was constituted under the University of Sydney Act 1989 and which held its first regular meeting on 5 February 1990, would perform the same functions as the 'old' Senate but its maximum membership had been reduced from 30 to 22.
