As part of the University of Sydney's Sesquicentenary celebrations, a formal Senate dinner was held on 3 February 2001 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first meeting of Senate on 3 February 1851, photo, courtesy the Development Office.

Former Fellow of Senate Liz Kernohan (1992-1995) was presented with the Member of Australia award by Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC, Governor of New South Wales, who would become Chancellor in June 2008.
