A brief history

The Act to Incorporate Wesley College as a College within the University of Sydney was assented to by the Governor-General on 1 June 1860.

The College was officially opened by the Chancellor, Sir William Cullen, on 1 December 1917, although a small number of medical students had been in residence earlier, as a consequence of World War 1 and the accelerated course for medical students. The Edwardian Gothic main wing was designed by Byera Hadley.

The College was in full operation from March 1918 and its inaugural Master was Reverend Dr Michael Scott Fletcher.

Prior to 1969 the College admitted only men as students but since then it has enrolled both men and women students. It currently has 230 students.
