Rodney Stuart Riddell was admitted in the first cohort of students in 1852.
His early life
Son of the Colonial Treasurer, Campbell Drummond Riddell, Rodney was born in Sydney and educated at William Timothy Cape’s school.
His student days at the University of Sydney
Riddell was 16 when he was admitted in the first cohort of students in 1852. He did not complete his studies however.
His career
His great grandfather was Sir James Riddell (d. 1797), first baronet of Ardnamurchan, Argyleshire, Scotland, and Rodney Riddell became Sir Rodney Riddell, the fourth baronet, in 1883.
Sir Rodney Riddell was a distinguished professional soldier who campaigned in New Zealand and during the Afghan War of 1878 to 1880.
When he died in 1907, he left no successor to the title.
