A Man For All Seasons

A Man For All Seasons

Artes Christi presents Robert Bolt’s acclaimed play of Sir Thomas More

“The bonds of marriage are not the only thing about to severed..."

Tudor England comes to life in Robert Bolt’s Tony Award winning play A Man For All Seasons directed by renowned writer, actor and director Donald Macdonald.

A Man For All Seasons portrays the life, trial and execution of Thomas More - one of England’s finest ever lawyers, judges and Chancellors. The play is based on the true story of Sir Thomas’ refusal to endorse King Henry VIII’s wish to divorce his Spanish wife Catherine so that he could marry Ann Boleyn.

More was ultimately condemned to death and beheaded but he was not the only victim … Henry went on to have 6 wives, two of whom he also had executed whilst at the same time cutting off the Church from Rome and making himself the Supreme Head of the Church in England. This is English history at its most colourful and dangerous yet at the centre of it all was a humble lawyer and father who became a martyr and a saint.

"Dying to go to a royal wedding? Imagine dying
because of a royal divorce."
