Since its debut on the Sydney stage in the 2000 Olympics, Café Carnivale has developed a solid reputation for presenting authentic performances of music from around the globe. Most of the musicians are from non-English speaking backgrounds who are frequently musical celebrities in their homelands but don't enjoy the same recognition here in Australia. Providing a stage where these marvellous artists can share their music and talent, Musica Viva's Café Carnivale is a program which celebrates the rich tapestry of cultural heritages in Australia.

Musical styles featured include South American, Balkan, rembetika, Greek, Indian, African, Asian, Italian, Egyptian, flamenco, Chinese, gypsy, percussion, tango, salsa, – the musical journey goes on and on.
