Sydney Ideas Lecture by Javier Cercas

Presented by Sydney Ideas, Sydney Democracy Initiative and Institudos Cervantes
An Anatomy of Writing and Politics, Memory and Democracy
Best-selling Spanish novelist Javier Cercas burst into the English language world with his spectacular experimental novel about the Spanish Civil War, Soldiers of Salamis. This was followed by the equally successful The Speed of Light, a novel about a Spanish novelist and Vietnam vet set in the United States and Barcelona. Most recently Cercas has published The Anatomy of a Moment, a non-fiction book about the failed 1981 Spanish coup d'état which has recently won Spain’s National Narrative Prize. An extraordinary writer, Cercas is one of Spanish literature’s most celebrated writers.
Javier Cercas is in Australia as a guest of Adelaide Writers’ Week 2012. His books will be on sale at the venue and he will be available to sign copies after the presentation.
