Dave Halls 'Burning Time'

Dave Hall

Thursday 18 March

After launching his much praised new album at The Basement in December 2009, pianist and composer Dave Halls brings his outstanding band to the Sound Lounge at the Seymour Centre to further explore the themes, cross cultural experiences and improvisations contained in Burning Time. Dave's repertoire will include new original music bound to delight audiences in this intimate setting.

Dave’s music features an eclectic mix of original compositions – rich in different styles from straight-ahead jazz, contemporary modern jazz, reggae, jazz hip-hop and funk. Dave takes improvisation to the next level by incorporating an ancient Chinese instrument called “GuZheng” into a unique fusion jazz experience.

Dave's seven piece band will take you on an incredible musical journey as he continues to push the jazz idiom beyond the normal conventions and unleash some truly dynamic sounds. Featuring Dave Halls (piano/keys), Craig Walters (saxophone), Rob Sullivan (guitar), Steve Ley (drums), Mervyn Sequeira (Bass), Sammila Sithole (percussion), Amy Cheung (GuZheng).

"Charlie "Bird" Parker said It's either good music or it's not. Well, Burning Time ...is much more than just good" Serge Ermoll, jazz pianist, composer and arranger
