Faculty resources and initiatives

Our staff can make a big difference by developing socially inclusive practices across our faculties. Some faculties have already established mentoring networks for first-year students, which make their transition to university life easier and therefore increase the likelihood of them continuing in higher education.
The Faculty of Science has developed an outreach program for primary and secondary schools to encourage interest in the sciences from an early age.
Faculty student networks
- Arts Network Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences mentoring network for first year students.
- Mentoring program Faculty of Education and Social Work students mentor first year students in a series of workshops starting during Orientation Week.
- First Year Transition Program an initiative from the Faculty of Science for first year students. It's an opportunity for incoming students to meet each other and get to know each other. Parents and guardians are invited to attend too.
- Science Alliance the Faculty of Science outreach program for primary and secondary school students.
Widening participation grants program
The University's grants program for widening participation is helping faculties to attract promising students from different backgrounds and helping to ensure students find an inclusive and diverse learning environment while studying.
The program is also funding research about social inclusion and exclusion in our society.
