Program Structure

The design of the program incorporates two major professional experiences:

a) Intensive development of knowledge of STEM education,

b) Teaching experiments that attempt to promote student engagement and learning through increased levels of STEM integration and student-directed learning.

The STEM Academy primary program is unique in terms of –

  • Fully-funded intensive professional learning sessions (non-residential) - 2 consecutive days in March, 2 consecutive days in June, and a final one-day showcase in October;
  • Supported teaching experiments and critical reflection – including school mentor visits and an online community via Edmodo;
  • Teacher/school goal setting and monitoring of progress in relation to levels of STEM integration and student-directed learning;
  • STEM integration and project-based (problem-based) as a framework for inquiry.
