Enrol in a new course

How to enrol

Once you’re ready, enrol online by logging in to Sydney Student. Go to ‘My studies’ then ‘Enrolment’ and you’re set to go.

There are several sections to complete as part of your enrolment. You can log out and return later if you need to.

Your enrolment comes with certain conditions so it’s important to understand them.

You should also familiarise yourself with our privacy policy regarding the personal information you supply during enrolment.

You’ll be asked to:

  • review your personal details including name and date of birth. You can update these details if you need to, but you may need to upload supporting documents to do this.
  • confirm your residency and citizenship status. If these details are incorrect you will need to update them and provide supporting documents. In some situations, you may not be able to complete enrolment until we have verified these changes.

Once you've completed this section, you won't be able to go back and make further changes. If you need to update this information you can do this after you've completed your enrolment.

You'll be asked to:

  • confirm your contact details. This includes a permanent address where we can contact you outside each semester or after you finish your studies, and a residential address which is where you currently live
  • provide at least one emergency contact

You'll also be asked some demographic questions required by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training.

Depending on your course, you may need to select your program, major(s), minor or specialisation.

You'll be able to browse and select from the options available to you.

Not all students will see this step on the enrolment task.

In this section, you will select your units of study for the year. You need to select units that meet the requirements of your course. Get help navigating through this part of your enrolment, including what to do if you need to submit an enrolment exception request or apply for departmental permission.

You can’t select units held in an intensive session before the commencement date outlined on your offer letter. A session code will appear next to each unit in your unit of study selection screen telling you which session that unit falls in. You can then check the dates and codes used for each session on our study dates page.

Not all students will see this step of the enrolment task. In some situations, we will enrol you in your required units of study, for example, if you're a cross-institutional, non-award, or study abroad/exchange student.

Once you have submitted and confirmed your units of study, you won't be able to navigate back to make changes. You'll need to complete the other steps and submit your enrolment first. Then if you want to change your units, you can do this in the unit of study selection screen (go to 'My studies' then 'Units of study'). Find out more about selecting and changing units of study.

Here you’ll be shown a summary of your fees.

You will also be given information about your Student Services and Amenities Fee (if applicable).

If you’re a domestic student eligible for HELP you'll then be asked to fill out the necessary Australian Government HELP forms.

You will need to:

  • confirm your expected completion date
  • review the information on travel concessions.

You will then be asked to review and confirm your enrolment information.

Once you have completed your enrolment, if you're a new student you will be asked to upload a photo for your student card.
