Conditions of use

Your student card is your University of Sydney identification card and is not valid without your signature on the back.

Your right to use this card cannot be transferred to another person and it can only be used as instructed.

The card identifies you for the purpose of University business only.

It should be carried with you at all times on the grounds of the University and should be produced when asked by any member of staff, or other officer of the University.

It should also be displayed when you sit formal examinations and is used when borrowing from the University libraries. If you transfer between degrees at either the undergraduate or postgraduate level, subsequent to your enrolment, it is not necessary to replace your card.

The Opal concession card has replaced the previous system of foils or bitmap image attached to your student card. You should carry your student card with you at all times as proof of your Opal concession entitlement. You should not obtain or continue to use student concession travel if you do not comply with the eligibility conditions.

Providing false information, fraudulently seeking to obtain benefits for which you are not eligible, or altering or tampering with your student card in any way could render you liable to prosecution.

If your student card has been lost or stolen you can obtain a replacement from the Student Centre. You will need to provide accepted photo identification. The cost of replacing your student card is $25. If you are eligible for student concession travel outside the Opal network, you may apply for a Transport concession entitlement card on the Transport NSW website.

Privacy

The personal information and photograph you supply to the University of Sydney in order to facilitate the issuing of your student card will be managed in line with the University's Privacy Policy 2013 (as amended) and Privacy Mangement Plan 2012 (as amended).

Your student card contains personal information you provide to the University when you become a student. The purposes of a student card include, verifying you as a student, providing proof of your Opal concession entitlement, allowing you access to secure areas on campus, verifying your access to secure areas of the University, and facilitating borrowing from the University libraries. By using your student card for these purposes, information will be generated and collected by the University, including records of the items you borrow from the University libraries and the secure areas you access.

The supply of information by you is voluntary. If you do not supply the information requested, this may prevent your enrolment as a student of the University and/or access to secure areas of the University.

The personal information you provide to the University and information regarding the items you borrow from the University Libraries and your access to secure areas of the University may be accessed for University purposes by staff members on a need-to-know basis, including: staff within the Student Centre who are authorised to issue cards and who have access to the Transact card management system where your information is stored; staff members who work in the University Libraries; and, relevant staff within Central Operations Services, the faculty, school or organisational unit that you work within, and the Safety, Health and Wellbeing unit.

You may apply at any time to see what personal information about you is held by the University and to check its accuracy. If any of the information is inaccurate, out-of-date or incorrect, you may apply to have the information corrected.
