2012 Spring Appeal - Do you care?
The Spring Appeal for 2012 has now closed. In this appeal, the University of Sydney reached out to more than 100,000 alumni and friends. Each envelope displayed a bold statement asking the recipient 'Do you care?', the above is an example from the Faculty of Veterinary Science. With this Spring Appeal, we hoped to find out what matters most to our alumni and friends.
The Spring Appeal raises funds that are essential to maintaining our standard of excellence in teaching and research, supporting a variety of worthy initiatives including:
- The Student Support Fund – offering financial assistance to students in need
- Alumni Scholarships – supporting our brightest minds in their postgraduate studies
- Dean's Priorities – ensuring donor gifts are allocated to where they are needed most.
People who contributed during the Spring Appeal joined over 10,000 donors who have already supported the University in 2012. Duringthe 2011 appeal, 1,466 donors raised more than $257,000.

2012 Tax Appeal - Today is the day
The Sydney Development Fund 2012 Tax Appeal has now closed. This year, alumni and friends of the University received the ‘Today is the Day’ appeal letter that encouraged everyone to support their preferred area of the University.
Gifts supported a wide range of initiatives:
- World-class research, enabling our people to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems.
- A student’s education and experience on campus, providing opportunities via scholarships and bursaries that change lives.
- Tackling social disadvantage, identifying school-age students of promise from disadvantaged backgrounds and lighting their path to University.
- Promoting the University’s cultural endowment via our outstanding library and museums collections.
- Helping our sporting stars reach their full potential by becoming a supporter of the University of Sydney Sport Foundation scholarship program.
2011 Spring Appeal - You can do something remarkable
The Spring Appeal reached alumni and friends in late October and November of 2011, providing alumni and supporters with an update from their faculty, or area they have supported in the past, and their plans for the future.
Through the 2011 Spring Appeal, faculties and foundations contacted alumni and friends - both previous donors and those who have never made a gift - with an invitation to do something remarkable and make a gift that will help current and future students and researchers to achieve their goals and make a difference in our local and global community.

To give you an example of the areas alumni and friends can support, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences letter introduces the Writing Hub - a faculty initiative designed to foster students’ abilities in critical thinking and good writing. While the Faculty of Health Sciences shared its hope to increase scholarships for students with disabilities. Each faculty and foundation has its own unique priority, and their communication in the Spring Appeal reminds alumni and friends that their combined support can truly make a remarkable difference.
2011 Tax Appeal - Discover The Potential
The Tax Appeal occurs throughout May and June, and invites our alumni and friends to make a gift prior to June 30 and receive the benefit of a tax deductible donation before the end of the financial year.
Our 2011 Tax Appeal invited our alumni and friends to discover the potential of giving back to the University. The appeal encouraged alumni and friends to make a gift that will allow Sydney students and researchers to discover their own potential as future leaders and problem solvers of our community.
