There is currently no cure for Arthritis. Current treatments can relieve the pain of arthritis but usually do not stop the disease. Sometimes there are strong side-effects of treatment. Arthritis patients can suffer from pain, inflammation and joint immobility and deformity that can interfere with normal daily tasks.
Arthritis is the major cause of disability and chronic pain in Australia, with almost 4 million Australians affected at a cost to our economy of ~ $24 billion each year.
As the population ages, the number of people with arthritis is growing.
