Art comes face-to-face with architecture in Vision in Motion, a project by the renowned artist Narelle Jubelin, which celebrates the University of Sydney’s significant – though often overlooked – modernist architecture. Visitors are invited to take a ‘modernist walk’ across the campus, visiting key sites that Jubelin animates with temporary installations and videos, including a survey of her exquisite petit point renditions, produced over the past three decades, inspired by architecture and the built environment.

Presented by the University Art Gallery in conjunction with the Sydney Festival 2012, Vision in Motion is a unique opportunity to explore these remarkable modernist sites, and to see many of Jubelin’s exquisite renderings on architecture, gathered together for the first time.

When: January 7 to 30 March, Monday to Friday from 10am to 4.30pm, Saturdays (in January only) from 1 to 5pm
Cost: Free

Youtopia

Promo picture of Youtopia

Australia’s most promising young architectural minds were challenged to design new performance spaces for three Sydney Festival venues: Festival Garden in Hyde Park, the historic Quadrangle at the University of Sydney and the massive Turbine Hall on Cockatoo Island. Youtopia is an exhibition of the models, prototypes and digital designs from the University of Sydney’s Master of Architecture students, capturing 30 outrageously theatrical visions. Imagine light clouds twinkling to your step in the Quadrangle, a ceiling of shifting musical chairs in the Turbine Hall or the Festival Garden’s totally immersive kaleidoscopic space of reflective multi-coned mirrors.

Where: Tin Sheds Gallery, The University of Sydney
When: 12 to 26 January, Tuesdays to Saturdays from 11am to 5pm
Cost: Free
