Venues and Access
Sydney Ideas uses a variety of venues on campus depending on the event size and format. Please check the links on each venue page, and follow directional signage to the room once you are near the venue.
Venues are subject to change at late notice, so please always check the website the day of the event, and read your e-reminder for any updates.
Please use the University's Campus Maps page to find your way around campus. We recommend you leave yourself time to find venues if you are unfamiliar with our campus.
Law School Foyer and LT 101
The Sydney Law School Building at the Camperdown campus is the venue for the majority of Sydney Ideas events.
The Foyer is the glass-walled room behind the lifts on the main street level, so enter direct from Eastern Avenue or take the lift to Level 2 from the car park. Click here for more information on how to get to the building.
Law School Lecture Theatre 101 is a tradtional lecture theatre, downstairs from the Foyer, on Level 1.
Lecture Theatres (LT) 104 and 106 are located under the forecourt of the New Law School building on Level 1.
Lecture Theatres (LT) 024 and 026 are located on Level 0.
There will be directional sigange to these venues around the Law School, on the day of the event.
There are a range of food and drink outlets nearby, including the fully licensed cafe Taste Baugette.
The Quadrangle hosts a number of Sydney Ideas venues including the Great Hall, MacLaurin Hall, General Lecture Theatre and the Philosophy Room. Once you arrive at the Quadrangle please follow directional signage to the various rooms.
Charles Perkins Centre and Sydney Nanoscience Hub
The Charles Perkins Centre Auditorium and the Sydney Nanoscience Hub LT 4002 (Messel) are often used for larger events.
Please note there is no dedicated parking at either of these venues, and we recommend public transport for the best access.
Seymour Theatre Centre
The University of Sydney’s Performing Arts venue, the Seymour Theatre Centre is the venue for select Sydney Ideas events. It is located on the corner of City Rd and Cleveland St, Chippendale. Click here for detailed directions and access information on the Seymour Centre.
The Seymour Centre provides a fully licensed bar and coffee cart for Sydney Ideas patrons and is open one hour prior to the lecture start times of 6.30pm. Click here for further information on its food outlets and menus.
Sydney Conservatorium of Music
Sydney Ideas also uses the University of Sydney's city based Sydney Conservatorium of Music venues. The Verbrugghen Hall is the a world-class concert hall seating 497 over two levels.
The Sydney Conservatorium of Music is located in Macquarie St, opposite the junction with Bridge St. It is next to the Royal Botanic Gardens and the gates to Government House. It is easily accessible by public transport. There is no public parking on the site, however there is a short-stay drop-off point for disabled patrons and deliveries. For door sales and picking up pre-booked tickets, the Seymour Centre box office will be open in the Conservatorium foyer one hour prior to the start of the lecture.
The Conservatorium opens a licensed bar one hour prior to the start of Sydney Ideas lectures on Level 1 (down the steps from the main foyer).
