Frequently asked questions

If I work with you, will it always be in something related to my degree?

Not all of our positions are course-related but they all provide you with industry experience and workplace skills. We will seek to place you in an appropriate role depending upon your goals and your skill level.

Can I gain course credit for doing course-related work with you?

If your faculty requires you to work in a course-related position, SydneyTalent is a good resource for finding appropriate placements. However, any credit you receive needs to be arranged through your faculty. SydneyTalent does not offer course credit.

I am an international student and hold a restricted work visa. Can I still find work through SydneyTalent?

Absolutely. SydneyTalent's placements are primarily part-time and will fit within the constraints of most international student visas. You should contact the Australian Immigration Department with any issues concerning your visa.

What should I expect when I come in to interview with you?

You should treat an interview with SydneyTalent as you would an interview for any potential job in a professional environment. It is helpful to bring a copy of your CV, and you should be prepared to share your goals for the future in both the short and long term.

How are SydneyTalent employees' rates of pay determined?

At the time it commenced operations, SydneyTalent commissioned an independent specialist to conduct an objective remuneration analysis to ensure all SydneyTalent employees receive competitive market salaries.

In addition, there are a number of factors that determine the pay rate SydneyTalent is able to negotiate for individual work placements. Students are matched according to the level of experience and expertise a particular role demands in order to achieve the best ‘level of fit’ for both clients and students. It is important to remember that the role will always dictate the salary – not the qualifications of the candidate.

The greatest single determinant of remuneration is the current market rate. As labour markets fluctuate over time and across different sectors, a degree of variation between comparable roles is sometimes to be expected. SydneyTalent’s team of recruitment specialists possess an expert understanding of current market conditions and are committed to securing the best possible outcomes for SydneyTalent employees.
