Auriol holds a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Genetics from Kings College, London (UK), a Masters degree in the Immunology of Infectious Disease from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (UK) and a Doctorate of Philosophy looking at the immunomodulatory effects of the antibiotics Ciprofloxacin and Moxifloxacin on healthy humans. The PhD was granted from the University of Aberdeen (UK). Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Sydney, Auriol completed two Post Doctoral Fellowships at The Roslin Institute (Edinburgh, UK).

The first looked at the pathogenesis of bovine spongiform encephalopathy in bovine and murine models and the second Fellowship studied the potential to utilise gene transduction to obtain proteins of medical interest from a chicken model.
