Research Interests
Brendan researched the ecology, molecular ecology and management of feral pigs during his PhD thesis. His work at DAFF included development of applied simulation models for disease transmission in feral pig populations. He returned to the University of Sydney in 2010 with the FA&VPH group for an ARC linkage project to generate empirical data and inferences on endemic disease transmission in feral pigs. This information will be used to understand wildlife disease transmission, and to parameterise simulation models and enhance preparedness plans for emergency disease outbreaks in wild vertebrate populations such as feral pigs.
Brendan has also worked extensively in other areas of veterinary public health such as in outbreak response (especially equine influenza), overseas biosecurity development, and national surveillance programs and in emergency disease preparedness.
