Animal Breeding Management (ABMgt) is a distance program for busy professionals, offered online with short residential sessions in Sydney and Armidale. Developed in response to a rapidly changing science and agricultural environment, the course combines theoretical and applied animal genetics with the skills required to participate in the enormous changes currently taking place in animal industries. Participants study human and organisational behaviour, communication, leadership, change management and a range of leadership and managerial skills while participating in teams to solve technical problems in animal genetics, breeding and biotechnology. Sponsored and supported by key Australian animal industry organisations, the expectation is that graduates will be well positioned to provide leadership in animal breeding.
The program offers units in animal genetics, animal biotechnology, genetic evaluation and breeding program design, animal reproduction, leadership, project management and research. It is suited to graduates with a science background aiming to enhance livestock industries by applying relevant technical knowledge in genetics and breeding program design as well as leadership and managerial skills.
It is an articulated postgraduate program offering three award courses:
- Graduate Certificate in Animal Science (Animal Breeding Management)
- Graduate Diploma in Animal Science (Animal Breeding Management)
- Masters of Animal Science (Animal Breeding Management)
It is also possible to enrol in individual units of study within the ABMgt program on a non-award basis. The program is comprised of:
