APSS 2014 Venues

Eastern Avenue Auditorium - Main Quadrangle - Crystal Palace Ballroom, Luna Park

This year the Australian Poultry Science Symposium is changing venues and will be spread out a little more than usual. The move is due in part to renovations being made to the Veterinary Science Conference Centre, but also to revisit the site of the first APSS conference and to do something unique to celebrate our 25th Anniversary.
Paper Presentations will be held in the Eastern Avenue Auditorium, with tea breaks and lunch also served here daily.
This year we will also showcase the spectacular heritage listed buildings of The Main Quadrangle:
- The Informal Session/Pre-Registration will take place in the Great Hall on Sunday Night.
- The Postgraduate BBQ on Monday Night will be held on the Lawns and in the Cloisters of the Main Quad.
Our final change for 2014 will be for our Symposium Dinner. The past 2 years have been extremely successful on board the Starship Sydney, however we have endeavored to do something extra special for our 25th Anniversary. This years event will be held at the spectacular Crystal Palace Ballroom, Luna Park, featuring live music and ferris wheel rides. We are strongly encouraging spouses/partners to attend this event, as we are hoping to make this our biggest ever Symposium Dinner.

We have created a map on Google specifically for APSS 2014, where you can view all of the locations that the conference will take place, as well as numerous options for accommodation.

Eastern Avenue Auditorium & Lecture Theatre Complex

Eastern Ave Auditorium

Built in 2000, the venue consists of a 500 seat auditorium, a 200 seat lecture theatre and 12 seminar rooms. The modern architecture and more spacious venue will offer something quite different from the usual APSS venue.
It is here that speakers from all around the world will present more than 70 original papers over the 3 day Symposium. Sponsors and Industry Partners will also be invited to make use of he seminar rooms, should they require somewhere to meet during breaks or before the day's presentations begin.

The Main Quadrangle

The Main Quadrangle

These amazing, heritage listed buildings are the pride and joy of the university. The Great Hall (below left) was officially opened in 1859, and, after recent refurbishment, will host the APSS Informal Session/Pre-Registration Evening on Sunday 16th Feb, 2014.
On Monday evening, we will congregate on the lawns and in the cloisters (above) for the Post-Graduate BBQ. During this event we will also have access to the MacLaurin Hall (below right). Originally the Fisher Library Reading Room, this is another beautiful Gothic building which makes up the outer perimeter of the Main Quadrangle.

Crystal Palace Ballroom, Luna Park

Crystal Palace Bannner

The Crystal Ballroom has state-of-the-art audio visuals, superb acoustics, an abundance of natural light and traditional, heritage listed arched windows, which reveal uninterrupted panoramic views of Sydney's magnificent harbour, the Opera House, the City and the Harbour Bridge.

The Crystal Ballroom extends onto a 15 metre wide deck that provides an ideal setting for pre-dinner drinks, with a private board walk entrance for your guests only a step off the ferry. The internal mezzanine is also ideal for pre-dinner drinks and forms part of the unique design of this room.

The Crystal Ballroom can play host to 300 guests for a banquet style dinner, and we hope to fill the room this year with delegates encouraged to "bring partners" for this special evening to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Australian Poultry Science Symposium.

The Symposium Dinner will be held on Tuesday night, including canapes, drinks, two course meal, cheese & fruit, live entertainment, ferris wheel ride and return transfers from your accommodation. We plan to catch a ferry across Sydney Harbour to the venue, and on the way back, take a bus ride over the Harbour Bridge.
