Events & Seminars

Induction

Specific welcoming events will be held to help you settle in. These include the University and Faculty induction events at each campus within the first month of each semester. You’re encouraged to discuss the Faculty induction event with your Supervisor during your induction meetings. You’ll be notified of these events through the postgraduate BLACKBOARD e-learning site and via e-mail.

Annual Postgraduate Conference

An annual requirement for ALL postgraduate attending the Faculty is to present your research findings and your plans to progress to Faculty staff and students at our annual postgraduate conference held in the first week of November each year. The conference alternates between the Sydney and Camden campuses and you will receive emails with the details and deadlines related to the conference several months beforehand, to give you plenty of time to get organised for it. This conference is designed to provide a non-threatening environment to practice your presentation skills and it also allows Faculty members to keep up-to-date with the research projects undertaken within the Faculty.

Faculty seminars

You are encouraged to attend and present your work in the Faculty’s lunch-time seminar series held both at Camden and in Sydney during semester-time. You will receive details about the seminars via email. These seminars are a great place to practice a conference talk and to get some informal feedback on your presentation and research.

Journal clubs and research group meetings

In addition to Faculty-wide lunch time seminars, many research groups within the Faculty have regular journal clubs and group meetings. Participation in these local research community activities is essential, especially early in your candidature. It’s a great forum for informing your lab mates and colleagues of your work and also to find out what others around you are up to. Ask your Supervisor for more details.

External seminars

The Centenary Institute, located in close proximity to the Veterinary Science Faculty at the Sydney campus, also offers seminars and skills improvement programs for researchers as well as providing lots of general useful tips for postgraduate clinical researchers.
