DVM Extramural Placements

Pre-Clinical (Animal Husbandry) Placements

Sydney DVM Pre-clinical experience

To acquire an appreciation of the working of animal enterprises, and the potential role of the veterinarian, students undertake placements at farms and other sites within the major animal industries. Pre-clinical placements are completed during years 1 and 2 of the DVM program.

Enrolled students should log in to the Blackboard Learning management system for detailed information about the placement program.

Preparatory Clinical Experience

Clinical contact in the University Teaching Hospitals commences during first semester of the DVM (or BVetBiol/DVM year 3) and continues throughout the course. Students will also undertake extramural preparatory clinical placements prior to the final year clinical placements program.

Final Year Partners in Veterinary Education

Sydney DVM Clinical Experience

The DVM culminates in the lecture-free, final year capstone experience program. Students complete a series of rotations as veterinary student interns in our Veterinary Teaching Hospitals and with our Partners in Veterinary Education in a wide variety of locations. Core placements are within the areas of small animal practice, rural mixed practice and government agencies. Elective rotations enable students to focus on particular career interests and may be undertaken in areas such as government, industry, research, specialist practice, equine and wildlife medicine.
