- Studied: Master of Animal Science (Animal Nutrition)
- Now works at: Beef Extension Officer at the Queensland Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry
After finishing my Master of Animal Science (Animal Nutrition) degree in 2010, I established a career with the Queensland Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (QDAFF) as a Beef Extension Officer assisting producers to implement practical strategies in improving business skills, herd management and grazing land management.
In this role I cover an area of 30,000 km2 and have travelled over most of Central and North Queensland and into the Northern Territory.
I use the skills and knowledge I gained from completing a postgraduate degree every day in this role, and my postgraduate qualifications in this field are highly valued as I am able to interpret the latest R&D and relay key messages to producers.
I also apply my experience in scientific procedures to project work and my scientifically based understanding of nutrition, herd health and diseases, reproduction, legislation and animal welfare is invaluable.
