ICAR Standing Committee

Duties of the Standing Committee are detailed in the ICAR Constitution and By-Laws (pdf)

Every country is entitled to at least one representative member on the Standing Committee of ICAR*. Some countries are entitled to more members, according to a formula which accounts for the number of active scientists and the size of the nation's animal industries. New members are nominated by their national professional organisations or societies and elected at a meeting of the Standing Committee held in conjunction with an ICAR conference. Members may hold office for up to 16 years provided they remain professionally active and regularly attend ICAR conferences.

* some countries currently have more than the indicated number of members under a grandfather clause enabling members elected on or before 1992 to remain in office until retirement at 16 years of service.

Note, any country not represented on the list below is entitled to at least one member of the Standing Committee, provided the nominee meets the usual eligibility criteria. Professional bodies within countries with no representation are encouraged to contact the Secretary General of ICAR.
