Presenting Signs
Cerebellar malformations are abnormalities in the development of the cerebellum, the movement centre of the brain. While these malformations are usually due to the animal being infected with a virus while in the uterus, there are also genetic defects that cause the same problem. Signs of cerebellar malformations include lack of coordination, high stepping gait and tremors before movement. These symptoms usually become apparent at an early age, as soon as the animal starts to walk. CT and MRI scanning can be used to demonstrate a small or abnormal cerebellum.

Cats at Risk
One or more cats in a litter may be affected.
