VSAPP – Veterinary Student Abattoir Placement Program
The Veterinary Student Abattoir Placement Program is part of the unit of study VETS4232 Veterinary Public Health.
Students undertake placements between 3rd and 4th year of the Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree. Students attend approved export abattoirs within Australia and are supervised by AQIS On-Plant Veterinarians, students also have the opportunity to undertake this placement outside of Australia at an approved export abattoir for the country, undertaking the placement under the supervision on a government employed veterinarian.
Prior to undertaking placements at an abattoir students complete modules on Abattoir structure & function, OH&S, Veterinary functions and Animal welfare. Students also attend a 2-day Abattoir Preparation training course on the Camden Campus prior to completing a 3-day placement at an external export accredited abattoir.
