Qualifications
Henk Hogeveen graduated as MSc from Wageningen Agricultural University in 1989. He wrote MSc theses on the field of Epidemiology (cystic ovarian disease) and Animal Health Economics (economics of herd health programs). From 1989 until 1994 he worked as associated researcher at the Department of Herd Health and Reproduction of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Utrecht University, where he received a PhD in the field of mastitis diagnosis.
Professional Experience
After a short employment at the former Institute for Agricultural and Environmental Engineering in Wageningen, Henk started as a scientific researcher in the field of herd health and management at the Applied Cattle Research Institute in Lelystad (nowadays part of the Animal Sciences Group of Wageningen UR), followed by a position as cluster manager welfare, health and milk quality at that institute.
Academic Experience
Since 2001, Henk is employed by Wageningen University, currently as associate professor in the Business Economics Group. His teaching and research activities are mainly directed at economics of animal health and food safety in BSc, MSc and PhD courses. As such, since Jan. 1 2004, he is stationed at the department of Farm Animal Health of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Utrecht University to strengthen the co-operation between both groups.
Contribution to the Profession
Henk Hogeveen has more than 120 publications in scientific journals, scientific proceedings and trade journals. Besides other memberships, he is currently Dutch representative in the IDF standing committee of animal health, chairman of the scientific committee in the organisation of the 4th IDF Mastitis Conference, Maastricht, the Netherlands and chairman of the consortium for Veterinary Epidemiology and Economy (cVEE), an initiative to improve and extend co-operation between veterinary epidemiologists and economist in the Netherlands.
