Equine Services

Clinical Services

The UVTHC provides a broad range of clinical services for horses in the areas of surgery, internal medicine, lameness, poor performance and dermatology.
Our extensive staff include registered specialists in surgery, internal medicine, dermatology, anaesthesiology as well as residents in training for various specialist qualifications.
The hospital has recently upgraded the imaging equipment and now has state of the art equipment including digital radiology, ultrasonography, high speed treadmill, nuclear scintigraphy and magnetic resonance imaging.
There is a veterinarian on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Regular hospital hours are Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm. A 24-hour service provides emergency veterinarians on call outside regular business hours.
We do much of our work within the hospital setting. Our well equipped equine hospital has intensive care boxes, a mare and foal box, isolation facilities as well as yards. An ambulatory service is also available if needed.

Teaching Hospital

  • The equine clinic also operates as a teaching hospital. Veterinary students rotate through the veterinary hospital during their final year of training. The students observe and participate in the activities of the equine clinic under close supervision by the equine staff.

Research

  • Research projects are often underway to advance our understanding of diseases and conditions that affect horses. This research helps develop new and better treatments for your horses.
